AI AS A GAME CHANGER

This event is part of the 10th edition of the Circular Economy Week, a week in which companies, government organizations and circular hubs across the Netherlands offer an inspiring view on various circular themes. Events and activities are organized to rethink how we design, use, and reuse products. SustainaLab is thrilled to participate as an official hub, opening our doors to showcase innovative approaches to building a circular economy.

Circular future: AI as game changer
Date: Tuesday 18th of March, 16.30 – 18.00 (drinks included).
Location:
SustainaLab, Matrix ONE, Amsterdam Science Park 301, 1098 XH Amsterdam.
Language: English

In this programme, a collaboration between Circl Movement and SustainaLab, you will discover the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the transition to a circular economy. Many companies are deploying AI to get results faster and make processes more efficient. Given the rapid developments in artificial intelligence, more and more is possible. What if AI could help recycle materials from old buildings? Or can create designs based on available materials?

The social role of AI
‘Those who understand AI set the course of the future’. A quote from Maarten Sukel, founder of The AI Factory and author of the book ‘the AI Revolution’. He did his PhD on multimodal machine learning at the University of Amsterdam. From image recognition to predictive models, from generative AI to text classification. Artificial intelligence offers our greatest opportunities and challenges of our time. So too in the field of sustainability and circularity.

What to expect.
In this session, the speakers will outline the current state of the art and make it tangible through some practical examples. We end the session by exploring ways to increase the positive impact of organisations using AI.

  • Dr. Maarten Sukel shows how AI is changing the world and what role humans play in the future of AI. He demonstrates numerous practical applications of AI and gives his views on the next step of AI in the field of circularity.
  • Julia Krauwer, Sector Banker Technology, Media & Telecom at ABN AMRO, published a report in December 2023 concluding that ‘generative AI can play a valuable role in the sustainability transition’. She will discuss her main conclusions.
  • Jasper Spiegeler, founder of OMRT, will discuss the application of AI within his company. Using smart software, they quickly develop thousands of designs for buildings and homes that take into account factors such as wind, noise, costs as well as saving building materials and low energy costs per building.
  • Mirko Vaars, Client Delivery at Bit. Bit is a B Corp Certified research and prototyping studio that ‘prototypes futures’: building new horizons for organizations, by the use of robotics, software and AI. Mirko will approach the discussion on AI and circularity from a practical perspective.

Join us on March 18 to learn more about how AI is already making a difference today and explore the opportunities it presents for the future!
